Founder & CEO
Casey Doody is the CEO of Portland Investment Advisors and Co-CEO of PIA Industries. The development of PIA Industries is a reflection of Casey's unique background that has shaped much of the philosophy of the firm.
From childhood entrepreneur mowing lawns and snow blowing driveways, to studying psychology and working with people and their money as an investment consultant, to owning Portland Investment Advisors—Casey's journey combines hands-on experience with sophisticated financial expertise.
Casey Doody has had a lifetime of hands-on experience with property ownership and management. In his adolescent years, Casey worked alongside his parents in their own home-building endeavors, and later for his uncle, who owned a construction company that built and renovated homes.
His experience working with properties continued into his college years, when Casey began working for a masonry company in Massachusetts and then, shortly after, established his own.
As a psychology student at Clark University, Casey became fascinated by the study of people and the principles that led to a successful life. With an entrepreneurial spirit and strong interest in business and human psychology, he directed his studies toward the world of finance and investment management.
Even before he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in 2006, Casey had become a fully licensed investment advisor. At age 22, his determination, hard work, and competitive nature allowed him to become a top-performing consultant at one of the largest companies in the investment world.
As time went on, Casey began to envision another way to practice investment management: one that prioritized fewer clients, which would allow him to focus more energy on deep personal relationships and quality outcomes for every individual he worked with.
With this vision, he established Portland Investment Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisor licensed in the State of Maine, where he continues to serve clients with a personalized, relationship-focused approach to wealth management.
Casey's understanding of construction, coupled with his knowledge about what attracts individuals to certain living environments, led him to purchase a multi-family building in Portland, where he now operates as a landlord.
The building he purchased next—a commercial-sized building that had been vacant for nearly 40 years—reflected the same entrepreneurial grit and innovation that serves as the cornerstone for PIA Industries.
This property had undeniable potential. Its location made it easily accessible, and its proximity to water and nearby efforts for economic improvement made it seem like a premier property. Yet it had lain vacant for four decades, and town leadership said that nothing could be done to revitalize that space.
Casey simply couldn't accept that it was impossible to utilize this premier property. This challenge became the catalyst for developing the tools and methodology that would become PIA Industries.
PIA Industries benefits from a network of experienced professionals who understand municipal operations and economic development.
Current and former town managers and selectboard members who bring decades of experience in municipal governance and operations.
Architects and construction professionals who understand the practical realities of property development and renovation.
Public water/sewer systems principals and public transportation executives from major cities in the state.
Financial professionals with expertise in municipal funding tools, banking relationships, and creative financing structures.
Portfolio management experts who bring sophisticated analytical frameworks to municipal asset evaluation.
Local business owners and community advocates who understand the importance of stakeholder alignment and public engagement.
PIAI sprouted from the need to resolve an economic problem initially stumbled upon in a small town in Maine, and then again in another. As a search for a resolution yielded no immediate useful results, our founder Casey Doody remained steadfast in his conviction that a solution can and would be developed.
With the progression of time and the influence and feedback from many remarkable contributors, a path forward became clearer. While all towns experience the need to adapt in an ever-changing economic environment, it is those communities who are unified in their efforts to overcome challenges that achieve the best possible outcomes.
Community is the answer to any economic challenges faced by a municipality, and PIAI is the tool.
